Abstract

Static and dynamic balance are vital for performance and injury prevention in roller skate athletes. While proprioceptive and strengthening exercises are extensively used, evidence of their combined impact in young athletes is rare. This study evaluated the effects of an eight-week proprioceptive and strengthening program on postural and lower-limb balance parameters in roller skaters aged 11–15 years. The study randomly assigned 30 athletes to an intervention group (n=15) or a control group (n=15). The intervention group trained three times per week with structured exercises, while the control group continued routine skating and endurance activities. Balance outcomes were assessed using the Human Track system and analyzed with paired and independent t-tests (p<0.05). Post-intervention, the intervention group demonstrated significant improvements in static balance, including neck lateral flexion (from 5.8 ± 1.2° to 3.1 ± 0.9°, p < 0.001), trunk lateral flexion (from 7.5 ± 1.5° to 4.0 ± 1.0°, p < 0.001), pelvis lateral tilt (from 6.2 ± 1.3° to 3.5 ± 1.1°, p < 0.001), and trunk flexion during tandem stand (from 8.0 ± 1.8° to 4.6 ± 1.3°, p < 0.001). In dynamic balance, peak knee flexion increased (from 58.4 ± 4.5° to 65.9 ± 3.8°, p < 0.001), total knee displacement decreased (from 12.5 ± 2.3 mm to 8.2 ± 1.7 mm, p < 0.001), and knee valgus-varus control improved significantly (valgus angle reduced from 6.8 ± 1.4° to 4.2 ± 1.0°, p < 0.001). The study found no significant improvements in the control group across all parameters (p > 0.05). An eight-week proprioceptive and strengthening training program, performed three times weekly, significantly enhances both static and dynamic balance in young roller skate athletes. Therefore, this study suggests this integrated approach to optimize performance and reduce the risk of lower-limb injuries in youth roller sports.
